Sometimes a yard just needs a reset. Overgrown shrubs can take over fast - and before long, what used to be a manageable garden bed turns into a tangled mess that crowds everything around it. That's exactly what we were working with here. A large, overgrown shrub mass taking up prime real estate in the backyard, surrounded by sprawling daylilies that had long outgrown their space.
The first step was removal. We cleared out the old shrubs and excess growth to open up the yard and give us a clean slate. Once that was done, we could actually plan for something better - something with structure, height, and long-term appeal. That's where the new arborvitae trees came in.
We planted a row of emerald green arborvitae along the back deck, setting each one in properly with balled-and-burlapped root balls - the right way to give a new tree the best shot at establishing strong roots. Fresh black mulch went down across the new bed, both in the back and out front, to lock in moisture and give everything a clean, finished look. The front bed got new plantings worked in too, giving the whole property a cohesive feel from the street all the way to the backyard.
What we ended up with is a yard that looks intentional. The new trees will continue to grow and fill in, adding privacy and structure near the deck over time. The front bed now has clean lines, fresh plants, and a sharp mulched border that makes the house stand out from the curb. Small changes in the right places really do add up.
This kind of work - shrub removal paired with a fresh garden installation - is one of the most practical ways to upgrade a property without a full landscape overhaul. We handle the heavy lifting, the planning, and the cleanup so you're left with results that hold up season after season.
