Spring Annuals and Shrub Replacements at Katherine's Wood

Sometimes all it takes is fresh color and a few new shrubs to completely change how a property feels from the street. That's exactly what we were working on here at Katherine's Wood - tired beds that just needed a clean slate and the right plants to bring them back to life.

We came loaded up with a full trailer of material - boxwoods, arborvitae, annuals, and a mix of perennials to give these beds some layered interest. Choosing the right plant mix matters a lot. Annuals give you that immediate pop of color, while the shrubs and ornamental grasses carry the beds through the season without needing constant attention.

The layout work is where the details really come together. Before anything goes in the ground, we stage the plants out across the bed to dial in the spacing and make sure the color balance looks right. Red and white begonias along the front edge, taller ornamental grasses anchoring the center, and rounded boxwoods framing the whole thing - it's a simple formula but it works.

What we love about this kind of work is that the results are immediate. Fresh dark mulch, clean bed lines, and new plant material - the whole property reads differently by the time we pack up the trailer. It's one of those jobs where the homeowner can actually see the difference in real time, which makes it rewarding for everyone.
